As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ  and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts,  support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.

All women at Lakeside are members of WELCA, and invited to participate in any of our activities. Following are some of the ministries and missions that you can get involved with:

School Supplies: (Cecilia Bennett)  Items are collected each August and delivered to Webster Elementary School where they are made available to students and their parents at the open house.

Mission Quilting:  (Dawn Straub) Quilters meet every Tuesday morning from 9am to noon,  for Mission Quilting. In October, quilts and dress kits are delivered to the Rice Lake Ingathering for Lutheran World Relief. Normally, 250 quilts are delivered each year.   We also make quilts to give to Northwest Passage for the boys’ Christmas presents. For those who sew at home, there are kits of fabric and thread in green bags in the fellowship hall.

Local Charitable Distributions:  Monetary donations are given annually to many organizations, including but not limited to; the Pregnancy Help Center (Rice Lake), Faith’s Lodge, Community Referral Agency (CRA), Benjamin House (Rice Lake), Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County, Spooner Hospice, Burnett County Family Resource Center, Salvation Army-Faith House, Feed My Starving Children, and Yellow Lake Food Distribution.

Craft, Bake, and Quilt Fair: (Sandie Fisher)  Held on Saturday of Labor Day week-end, local venders and craftspeople offer their goodies. WELCA sponsors a bake sale and serves a lunch.

Lefse:  At the above bake sale, Lefse is sold (usually sold out in the first hour!) Ladies get together the week of the sale to make the lefse.  You don’t have to be an expert lefse maker, or even Norwegian.  All hands are welcome.

Layettes: (Norma Olson and Nancy Lahner) Items for Baby Bundles are collected all year (dresser in the Narthex) and are put together in October. Bundles are delivered to area hospitals and the Pregnancy Help Center in Rice Lake.

Luther Park Bible Camp (Danbury) Fall Retreat:  Our annual retreat is always a wonderful day of fellowship and inspiration. Fun activities, a great speaker, singing, and wonderful food are always included.

Prayer Partners:  A prayer partner is a Christian friend who will pray for you throughout the year. To sign up, fill out a form and drop it into the prayer partner box on the table in the Narthex. Prayer partners are chosen (and revealed) at the Fall retreat each year.

Card Making: (Sandie Fisher, Marilyn  Gallman) Recycled cards are made and sold.  Money raised supports our missionary, Phillip Knutson, in South Africa.

Spring Activity:  Past events have included a tea/luncheon at the church, attending a tea at Panola Gardens, and a bus trip to Rice Lake to visit Benjamin’s House and the Pregnancy Help Center. We’re always looking for new ideas.

Funeral Lunches: (Jolyne Peterson, Sandie Fisher)  Lunches are served after funerals, as requested by the families.   Help is always needed for set up, serving, providing bars, and clean up.

Conference Gatherings: As a member church of the Heart of the North Conference, Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, there are opportunities throughout the year to meet with sister churches to retreat and renew.

Prayer Shawls, Prayer Squares, and Cancer Quilts are made by our members and distributed as needed in the community.  Yarn is available in the fellowship hall.

Thankoffering Service is held each year. Money collected is sent to WELCA Churchwide to support WELCA ministries.

Christmas for Kids: Money and toys are collected throughout November and given to Interfaith Caregivers of Burnett County.

Sunshine:  (Mary Heenan) Cards are sent to members of Lakeside (and others as requested) in times of need.

Gather Bible Study: (Brenda Wheeler) meets by Zoom December through March, with in-person meeting April through November.  We use “Gather”, a magazine published by the Women of the ELCA.  There are usually 3 major studies a year: Winter (January-April), Summer (June-August), and Fall (September-November), with a devotional study provided in May and December.  If you don’t have the magazine, copies of the study are available in the Narthex each month, or can be downloaded at womenoftheelca.orgThe Bible Study normally meets the 4th Thursday of each month, 12:30 PM.

WELCA meetings are held at least 4 times a year, with others as needed. Check WELCA’s report in the monthly newsletter for dates. All are welcome!
