W/ELCA is an organization at Lakeside that all women are members of. Our Purpose Statement is:
As a community of women created in the image of God called to discipleship in Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society and the world.
W/ELCA (which is the business meetings) will now be held on the 2nd Monday of the month (quarterly ~ Feb., May, August and November) at 10:00. Without the members of the church we would not be making and sending over 200 quilts around the world and in the community. We also have many layettes going to needy parents. We have, with the cooperation from VBS and the church sent many backpacks to our local schools. It takes many hands to turn the work of our church into fun and fellowship.
The groups that come under W/ELCA are: Stewardship ~ making mission quilts, Justice ~ Making and selling recycled cards, Sunshine ~ sending cards to members of the church that are sick or have lost a loved one. The Layettes are sent to missions.
WDC - Women's Discipleship Coffee was formally Mission Growth.
We, as women of the Church also enjoy the company of our members and the many other women of the community. Such as:
SPRING LUNCHEON ~ Usually held the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in May. We have entertainment and a luncheon
PIE SOCIAL ~ many pies are served at this function in June. Women usually bring their favorite pies and they are served with ice cream.
CRAFT AND BAKE SALE ~ This sale has been held on the weekend of Labor Day.
FALL RETREAT ~ this is usually held the 3rd week in September and is a inspirational and relaxing day for the women of the church and the community.
W/ELCA also makes many contributions to local charities and scholarships to the youth of our church
